The Ujjeevanam campaign, spearheaded by Kudumbashree, embarks on a 100-day mission from October 25 to February 1, aiming to eradicate extreme poverty in Kerala. With a steadfast commitment to transforming the lives of the most vulnerable, the campaign strives to bring these families into the mainstream of society by ensuring sustainable income and self-sufficiency.

Out of the 64,006 extremely poor families identified through a comprehensive survey, 6,429 families in need of livelihood will receive tailored support under the Ujjeevanam campaign. This initiative marks a pivotal step towards making Kerala the first state in India to be free from extreme poverty.

Through meticulously planned project activities, the Ujjeevanam campaign addresses the root causes of poverty, particularly the inadequacy of means of livelihood. By empowering families with sustainable income-generating opportunities, the campaign breaks the cycle of poverty and paves the way for a brighter future.

Kerala's already low poverty rate of 0.5%, as per NITI Aayog data, further underscores the state's commitment to social welfare. The Ujjeevanam campaign aims to lift 93% of the 64,006 poor families out of extreme poverty by November 1, 2024, with the remaining 7% expected to follow by November 1, 2025, effectively eliminating extreme poverty in Kerala.

Recognizing the unique needs of each family, the campaign begins with home visits conducted until November 15. A dedicated team formed in each local authority will meticulously assess the survival and livelihood requirements of every family. This comprehensive understanding will inform the creation of personalized livelihood plans, ensuring that each family receives the most suitable support.

At the heart of the Ujjeevanam campaign lies the Micro Enterprises Consultant, who plays a crucial role in collecting individual livelihood plan information at each Community Development Society (CDS). The gathered data is carefully categorized to identify those requiring essential support and those whose challenges can be addressed through the Community Enterprises Fund.

For beneficiaries seeking vocational training, the list of livelihood activities will be made available by November 25. Additionally, financial assistance, if required, will be provided through various Kudumbashree schemes by February 8, 2024. Local body level projects and sponsorships will further augment the financial support provided.

With its unwavering commitment to empowering the most vulnerable, the Ujjeevanam campaign stands as a beacon of hope, paving the way for a future where extreme poverty is no longer a reality in Kerala.
