The website www.gikerala.in, with comprehensive records on geographical indication products from Kerala, has been released to introduce Kerala's GI products to the world and hence discover more markets. The website was launched by Industries & commerce department as a part of projects aimed at promoting the trade of GI products. Product specifications, manufacturers' and distributors' information, etc. are available on the website. In the future, the website will facilitate the online marketing of the products.

The geographical indication tags are given to identify a particular product as its quality is linked to the geographical characteristics of the place where it is produced. Its benchmark is the best quality and originality of the product. In India, more than 400 products have been included in the GI list so far. Aranmula Mirror was the first to get the GI tag in the state. As of the latest count, there are currently 35 GI products in Kerala. The products that have got the GI status include Wayanad Jeerakashala Rice, Wayanad Robusta Coffee, Vazhakulam Pineapple, Central Travancore Jaggery, Marayur Jaggery, Kuthampulli Handloom, Navarayari, Pokkali Rice, Aranmula Mirror, Palakkadan Matta, Chendamangalam Mundu, Kasargod Saree, Edayur Chili, Nilambur Teak, Alleppey Green Cardamom, Tirur Betel leaf, Chengalikodan Nadan Banana. The website (https://www.gikerala.in/) will give access to all GI products of Kerala in a common place. 

The Industries and Commerce Department will support products having GI Tag in the State, using the best marketing methods. GI products will be given legal backup to insulate them from spurious products flooding the market.  A nodal officer will also be appointed for the coordination of GI activities in the State. Assistance will also be provided to GI producers through District Industrial Centres.
