The age limit for educational benefits of M.Phil and Ph.D. courses for Scheduled Caste students has been raised from 33 to 40 years. Students entering M.Phil / Ph.D. courses by the age of 40 are eligible for the education benefit up to a maximum of 45 years. Students will be eligible for Fellowships and Contingent Grants at the rate of 75% of the amount allocated by the UGC from time to time.

The current age limit for applying for the post of Assistant Professor in collegiate education for SC / ST students is 45 years. However, the age limit for educational benefits for Scheduled Caste students for courses like M.Phil and Ph.D. is 33 years. The age limit has been raised from 33 to 40 based on the perception that this gap is a barrier for backward classes to gain higher qualifications and enter higher posts.
