The Coastal Shipping and Inland Navigation Department is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules and regulations and laws relating to Shipping and Inland Navigation sectors in the State.
 
The department looks after the administration of Coastal Shipping & Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC). The department mainly coordinates its functions though KSINC, a Government of Kerala undertaking, was formed by the amalgamation of the Kerala Inland Navigation Corporation (KINCO) established in 1975, and the Kerala Shipping Corporation (KSC) established in 1974. KSINC are the Pioneers of inland navigation in the waterways of Kerala. KSINC headquartered at Gandhi Nagar, Kadavanthra, Kochi have operating units (a) Thoppumpady (Slipway Complex) (b) Thevara (Boat Yard) and (c) Boat Jetty near High Court.
 
Important activities of the department include: Administration of Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation, Development of Coastal Shipping and related activities, Inland Water Transport, Inland Navigation (Construction of Waterways) etc.
 
Kerala Shipping & Inland Navigation (KSINC) was formed in 1989 by the statutory amalgamation of Kerala Inland Navigation Corporation (KINCO) and Kerala Shipping Corporation (KSC), two Government of Kerala Corporations incorporated in 1975. The main objective of the company is to develop passenger and cargo transportation through inland ways of Kerala.
 
The Company headquartered at Gandhi Nagar, Kadavanthara, Kochi have operating units (a) Thoppumpady (Slipway Complex) (b) Thevara (Boat Yard) and (c) Boat Jetty near High Court.
 
Managing Director is the Chief Executive of the company and HODs (managers) reporting to the Managing Director is the basic organization of KSINC. Finance Manager heading the Finance/ Accounts Department looks after the financial aspects. The Company Secretary is now in charge of Administration and related sections in the company. Mechanical Engineer is looking after the repairs and maintenance and construction of both in house and outside vessels. Commercial and operations sections are headed by Commercial Manager.

Services & Activities

 

  1. Transportation of cargo, viz.fuel, rock phosphate, sulphur etc. through Inland Waters for various customers such as IOC, BPCL, FACT, NAVY etc.
  2. Docking and repairs of marine vessels and construction of Boats and small ships.
  3. Conducting in tourist cruises in backwaters.
  4. Providing and maintaining Navigational aids in National Waterway.
  5. Oil Bunkering.
 
 
KSINC at present has fleet strength of 3 Bulk Carriers 4 petroleum tanker barges, one acid barges and two jhankars. KSINC was the pioneer in transporting imported industrial fertilizers raw materials such as Rock phosphate, Sulphur and phosphoric acid to FACT Cochin Division and Udyogamandal Division through waterways. However with the entry of private players the Company is facing competition. The company is engaged in bunker supplies to ships in the Cochin Port area since 1989. The company has ongoing contract for the delivery of fuel to ships with the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Besides, we are also exceeding occasional bunker calls from the Bharat Petroleum Corporation as well. On an average 4000MT of POL Products are handled per month.
 
 
The company has a modern slipway complex with six tracks with all facilities to offer reliable speedy and efficient service. The slipway complex is taken on lease from the Cochin Port Trust since 1991. Construction and repair boats, barges and marine vessels of the company as well as customers in public and private sectors are undertaken in this slipway. The company has attained sufficient proficiency in the construction and repair of marine wooden and steel vessels. Recent construction is one 6 Tonne Bollard Pull tug, for the Department of Ports, Government of Kerala, 2 FRP Boats for the Tourism Departments, Dredgers, 350MT dump oil barge for Visakhapatnam Ports, Visakhapatnam. House boats, ferry boats and other kind of vessels.
 
 
The company is a major player in Tourism sector at Kochi with Sagara Rani, Luxury vessels under IRS Class, KSINC owns two vessels of the same class viz. Sagara Rani-I and Sagara Rani-II in addition, we are having 2 other Tourist Boat under operation. Bigger sea going vessel is under construction.
 
 
The company has 150 employees in its rolls. There are 4 senior executives 4 middle level executives and 7 supervisory /junior management level staff.
