Registration of dealers assessment and collection of sales tax and agricultural income tax, recovery of arrears of tax, prevention and detection of tax evasion, disposal of appeals and revision petitions constitute the major work. There are departmental tribunals and appellate authorities. The department also controls 44 permanent sales tax check posts.
